Big changes are happening, and we are excited about growth and new ventures! As I look around while working our mead bar, I see people from all over the country sipping our meads, learning about bees, and picking up bottles of our delicious honey & artisan mead. The hard part is we are two companies in one. We started Blue Haven Bee Company in August of 2013 with hopes and dreams. It has taken eight years to see our vision come to life and both of our brands prosper. The problem is branding. We are focusing on our mead manufacturing, but still produce our own honey and are passionate about bees. We are still handcrafting body care and making gorgeous gifts that we ship all over the country. To be honest, we love what we do but our meads are putting us on the map and keeping things moving full speed ahead.
Our entire motto is our roots run deep. We focus on the land our ancestors farmed, the building my grandfather built to manufacture jeans, and our heritage. I think it is such an incredible thing to pay homage to the people that helped shape who we are today. We are first and foremost a family business and work hard to share honey in many different forms.
So moving forward we will be using the handle Southern Origin Meadery on social media platforms. We find that since our meads are being distributed to multiple states now, we want consumers to be able to find us. Our location in Canon has become a manufacturing hub for the thousands of bottles of mead that go out the door every month. Do not get me wrong, we sell a lot of honey too. We love our first “baby” Blue Haven Bee Company, and it is not going anywhere. I mean our roots run deep and it all started with our love for bees and the powerful benefit of honey.
With the increasing cost of doing business, we are striving to make things work and not raise our prices. We are still finding it hard to get materials we need to make our products and the glass shortage is real. We are ordering glass 6-9 months in advance and still having trouble getting it. I know a lot of businesses struggling with this, so please be patient if something is out of stock. As our world is getting back to normal, some things are still a struggle especially if you own a small business.
Some fun updates on what is going on is we are now distributing all over the state of Georgia via Savannah Distributing and South Carolina via Advintage Distributing. We are finalizing our license and will be going into North Carolina very soon. We have partnered with Savannah Bee Company and all their Georgia and South Carolina locations will be featuring Southern Origin Mead flights in their locations! This is HUGE and such an honor. Savannah Bee Company knows all things bee and for them to extend this opportunity is unbelievable. You can go into their stores and taste our meads anytime of the year, but this summer they are featuring six our meads in an exclusive flight. They have been nothing short of amazing to work with. Kind, smart, and encouraging. So go give these folks some love and tell them we sent you!
Some additional exciting updates are we will be launching a new website for the meadery very soon and continue to service our Blue Haven Bee Company site. We just got done with honey harvest and had a fairly good year. We are gearing up for Sourwood Honey flow and have our fingers crossed for a healthy harvest! We have some new vintages of mead fermenting, aging and even a new reserve mead we are extremely excited about.
We continue to grow and with growth comes changes. So, do not let our social media handles fool you. We are still the same family business with roots that grow deep in our area. We are just focusing on our new passion while maintaining what we started. We have many hopes and dreams that we cannot wait to share with each of you. Thank you for being apart of our journey and supporting us! We look forward to seeing you in the hive!
